The International Classical Music Festival, now under the auspices of UNESCO and henceforth named “SYRREO MUSIC FESTIVAL,” is a brilliant cultural event spanning three decades that highlights excellence in art—held in Syros, the first place in the new Greek State to welcome Europe. With 25 years of contributions from its President Fotis Karagiannopoulos, the Festival has been renewed and impressively celebrates contemporary European culture and heritage.
The new Artistic Director, Nikolas Kavakos, demonstrates artistic vision and a fresh approach to the program, focusing notably on education, promoting new artists, and hosting internationally acclaimed musicians.
The Festival opens with a landmark concert introducing the Syros audience to Greek operetta in the Ermoupolis square.
The rich program includes:
International guitarist Kostas Kotsiolis and a string quartet in a surprise concert
A gala of lyrical songs with leading baritone Dimitris Plataniás and Sofia Tavvakopoulou
A recital by the award-winning 15-year-old violin talent Odysseas Tsakalidis
An educational free concert for children by the music ensemble Arco Sonore in collaboration with El Sistema Greece.
This year’s Festival will conclude with the unique Leonidas Kavakos at the Apollon Theater.
