he renewed SYRREO Music Festival opens on August 3rd with a grand Greek operetta gala at Miaoulis Square, set against the iconic backdrop of the Syros Town Hall.
The performance features top musicians from the Camerata Orchestra, conducted by Michalis Oikonomou, Artistic Director of the ERT (Greek National Broadcaster) Orchestra. The concert will include well-known songs, many of which audiences may not realize were originally written for Greek operettas. These works were to the interwar period what cinema was to the postwar years—popular, beloved, and culturally influential.
Greek operetta (1912–1940) blends classical tradition with folk music, and continues to resonate through the voices of today’s performers.
